CB77 Rims
CB77 RimsHave a late model 67 CB77 with rims that are pretty tired. Looking into chrome plating them and realzing how expensive this is. I know a shop in Nebraska that would do show chrome on them for $300.00 so I figured I'd check into Denver bumper/chrome thinking they'd be cheaper. Well they don't do copper plating under the chrome so they don't achieve "show chrome" but they will cost $350.00 and chrome right over the pitting. I told Denver Bummer to pound salt.
Any one have a decent set for sale? Chrome can be dull but I'd preffer them to not be pitted much or scratched to heck from chain damage like mine. I hear that the repro rims from Thailand don't even have the right number of spoke holes.
Re: CB77 RimsNot for a 'show' bike, but Union Cycle rims, from eBay's vintage_001, worked well for me; see for yourself.
Have you thought about aluminum?I see that the Buchannon Spokes guys also sell aluminum rims similiar to the swedish akront rims of the 60's-80's...just google Buchannon +spokes and there you are. I know the rims and stainless spokes aren't cheap but they would look great and actually be somewhat period acceptable since all the race bikes had aluminum rims..just a thought. Tim
vintage_001WoW. Vintage_001 is really affordable and if you have them on your original hubs I think that would be the way to go. I'd assume you can see belt sanding marks in the chrome as the original DID rims have. Do these rims say DID on them or anything else for that matter. I'd rather not end up with words and letters on the bead edge as I see some rims have.
