Neutral Light Holder

Post by britman » Sat Dec 13, 2008 5:32 pm

Does anyone know where I can locate the rubber elbow that holds the neutral light bulb on a CL77or have a good suggestion of something to use as a substitute.

This is apparently a pretty rare part. LM doesn't have it, at least not one he's willing to sell to me. Luckily there's enuf of my old one left to patch up with liquid electric tape (home depot) and make it work. I'll be interested to see if anybody comes up with a source.

Worth a Try

Post by britman » Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:00 am

jleewebb,

I have a couple of old spark plug boots laying around. I will give them a shot and see how it goes. Unfortunately both of my holders are well beyond repair.

There must be some sort of modern replacement, I have looked through our local bike wreckers but have failed to find one yet.

This is a problem we are all going to have to face at some point I guess.

Had the same issue on my CL77. Used 3/8" black fuel line from Napa to replace the boot. The connection is straight, but has enough "bend" or "give" to move when the headlight is reinstalled. You'll only need about 2" (but get a foot for mistakes) and use an Exacto knife to enlarge the the inner dia. of the end which will connect to the plastic nut/lens of the headlamp housing. Go easy when trimming and keep trying till you get a tight & snug fit. You can even use a small tie strap to secure. The bulb just slips into the other end. There maybe some other tubing available without the need for trimming, but it's what I had laying around.

This Will Work

I was in True Value Hardware and spotted the lawn mower spark plug boots costing a grand total of a $1.99 each. With a little trimming fits better than the glove did on OJ.
