Wiring a keyed ignition switch Cp77

Post by WrenchRust » Tue May 24, 2016 4:30 pm

I just spent to much money to buy an ignition switch for my CP77. Bike was stolen was the thieves busted the old one and melted the wiring harness.

I wired up the new harness but I'm having issues with the new switch.

In position 1) key can come out but all light are left on.

In position 2) key can not come out and the starter works.

In position 3) key can not come out and all lights/power is off.

I used the continuity setting on my multimeter and the wiring diagram and it seems that I've got everything in the right place but I obviously don't.

Any suggestions? Please.

Lets assume Position 1 is all systems are off and you can remove the key.
Position 2 is the middle location and engine runs and all lights work.
Position 3 is tail light and speedo lights are on and you can remove the key as this is the park system and can be used at night but will drain the battery.
HONDA made it that way. .....................lm

Loud Mouse,

What you are describing is NOT what is happening.

Position 1) all lights ON, key will come out.

Position 3) all lights OFF, key will NOT come out.

In other words, power OFF, key is stuck in switch. Power ON, key can be removed.

I can, in a moment... I'm putting a new exhaust manifold on my wife's Ford Ranger. But that shouldn't take very long.

Man, it took me one day to pull that Ford 4.0 engine apart. 1 day to change out the head gaskets and put the engine back together. Then it took me a full day to get the left side exhaust manifold to line up and bolted on.

But now that that's done, back to the matter at hand. I took a picture of the back of the ignition switch. I'm guessing that's what you wanted a picture of?
