Lucky me

Post by modelman » Sun Aug 02, 2015 5:30 am

The gods were with me on my latest resto.
The bike had been standing for MANY years & the first thing I did was remove the totally dry battery just to see if it had 'anything', as soon as it was filled, the water poured out from many splits, so it went in the bin, BUT, dipstick here noted the number & went out & bought a replacement, not any old one, but a sealed-gel jobbie, (read expensive)
Do you sometimes miss the glaringly obvious?? Well I did, I noticed 'additional' wiring by the old battery but put it down to the P O 'mending' it, then it dawned on me that the extra cabling was because the fitted battery was the wrong one, terminals on the wrong side, hence the 'extra' cable.
Had I bought a 'normal' replacement, the chances were that there would have been the one pair (& wrong) terminals, but this being a 'posh' one it came with FOUR sets & thus was a universal unit.
I should have known better since I have fitted the same batts to all my bikes.
I do feel a bit of a plonker sometimes.
