Hey fellas, so yesterday was my maiden ride with the super hawk. After sorting out the blowing fuses from a faulty rear brake light switch i decided it was time! Well here are my first impressions and concerns. After changing to a fresh brand new battery i finally gave the E starter a try, this time to my surprise it actually works! Started the bike this way and rode to a local bike night gathering. Its about a 15-20 ride there so i figure it was close enough that if something would happen i could someone to get me. Well as soon as i gear up to leave i wanted to try the starter once again. This time nothing....it was dead. At first i thought the battery had died, i kicked started the bike and it fired right up. I was relieved and proceeded to go home with the headlamps and brake lights on all the way home. So my question is , what happened to the E starter? The very first time i had ever tried the E starter there was a whining noise but no start....i had thought it was doing this cause of the old battery. But with the new battery this time it fired right up but now its dead completely no sound no nothing. What could this be? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Electric starterHave you tried to jump the selenoid? If the starter spins at least you have narrowed the search. If my battery gets low it will still start with kick but want have enough juice to crank the bike with the starter. After kick starting a 750 Norton for years I love to just kick the little honda to life. It makes me feel good to push down the kick lever and not have the bike want to throw me off.
After going through a complete overhaul of my engine I didn't see anything with the kick start system that looked prone to problems. I didn't really care for the starter clutch system that was just spring loaded pins . I was kind of worried about how reliable these motors would be for daily riding but after pushing it up the road when the charging system failed and left me stranded I can honestly say things might break but they are easy to push. LOL.
SWARDLAW, you have a CA77, fab60 has a CB77. Different kick covers and mechanisms. The CB77 kicks forward due to the foot peg setup and has an extra gear in there to compensate for the kick direction. Not that the Dreams kick cover can't or won't crack, but I have had several Dreams over the years I have worked on and none had cracked covers, but I have had several CB77s over the years with cracked covers. Honda redesigned the CB77 cover with more meat and reinforced webs to help with the breaking. Lack of adequate lubing contributes to the phenolic/Bakelite bushing wearing and introducing slop to the mechanism. Always good to keep it lubed whatever bike you have.
