wiring---am I missing something?
wiring---am I missing something?ok, I have went thru the diagram over and over and over again. I plugged the wires into their respective spots and I had the speedo light working and the horn however after about a minute they went dead and now I have nothing. Not sure what happened plus I can't get power to the coils or the headlight. I checked the headlight and it is good. I kicked the bike over with spark plugs in the spark plug holders and held against the engine but no spark.
ok, here is what I have: From the dyno there are 4 wires--light green with red swirl that goes to the neutral light. Pink that goes to the headlight switch on top of headlight. Yellow that goes to rectifier and to the headlight switch. Brown that goes to the rectifier. On the coil there are 4 wires, two black and one green and one yellow. The green and yellow go to the points. The two black I believe are ground and get grounded from a black that comes from the key switch. This black wire from the key switch is also the ground to the backlight switch. The black from the key switch also goes to the headlight case and is the ground for everything in there I believe. Gets attached to the horn, the headlight switch, etc. The green from the keyswitch goes to the headlight switch and is also attached to the speedo light. The red/white from the keyswitch goes to the rectifier. The white from the keyswitch goes to the back light. The blue from the backlight switch attaches to the blue from the back light to make that work. ok, now inside the headlight bucket is the main harness coming in which contains the pink, yellow, black/white, light green/red, and green. The pink goes to the headlight switch. The yellow goes to the headlight switch. The light green/red goes to the neutral light. The black/white is ground for the neutral switch, it also feeds the ground to the headlight switch, the ground for the horn. Here is where I am not sure if it is right----the GREEN coming in is the power and feeds the headlight switch, is attached to the speedo light. The handlebar wires have the blue, which attaches to the headlight and high/low indicator light. The red which attaches to the headlight. The black which attaches to the horn. The brown which attaches headlight switch. Ok, have a green coming off the speedo light and assume it is ground---does it attach to the green on the headlight? Also, the green on the headlight, what does that attach to?? Thanks for any help. Jeff 1974 Yamaha DT125 Enduro

The main switch is powered by a red wire off the battery post, check the fuse in that wire. The black wire is the main power feed . It comes off the main switch, it goes to the ignition coils, one side of the brake light switch and to the headlight where it is plugged into the horn, the headlight switch and the neutral light socket. the blue wire from the tail light(brake light) runs to one side of the stoplight switch. The dash light bulb has a short ground wire that plugs into a terminal on the headlight pigtail. The headlight (and dash light)grounds through the mounting ears, not one of Honda's better ideas, an added ground wire added between the headlight and a bolt on the frame will give you better lights.

ok, so the black wire with the white loop on it is power. I have them all plugged in like you said but there is only one thing I haven't changed out on this harness I wired and that is the fuse holder. It looks pretty worn and ugly but the fuse looks good in it. Also, I have heard if a person powdercoats the frame and then attaches the coil and other things to it, you should ground off a little bit of it so you get good ground. I did that for the main ground but didn't for the coils or anything else. Could this be an issue or is one of the switches bad? First I am going to tackle that fuse holder as it very old and suspect. But why would the power work for a short time and then not work? And why would my dash light work, my horn work but yet my headlight isn't? Think that is a ground issue too? Or could it be switches? Anyone ever have these go out?

Is the battery still charged? Check for 12 volts at the red wire connection at the rear of the main switch. In the run position(one click clockwise) there should be 12 volts at the black/white post . In the park position(two clicks clockwise) there should be power only at the white wire going to the tail light. I like use a dedicated ground wire with a ring terminal attached to a tail light mounting bolt, run forward to the ground wire on the headlight pigtail, with a branch soldered on at the negative battery terminal and the coil mounting bolts.

ok, after a little perserverance, it works. I am not sure I understand that neutral light however. I have it plugged in with the black and white being the power and checked it with a light and there is definitely power there so I checked the green wire and both of them push power up there. I didn't think that was right so I took the other wire off, the green with red I believe and touched a ground and it lit up. So, then I put it into gear and the light doesn't go off. How does that switch work exactly? Also, my horn sounds like a duck that is shot---waaaahhhhhh, waaahhhhhh. Is there a way to get these sounding better? haha. I think I just need to now figure out the neutral switch AND the horn and I am golden. Oh, plus I have one spark plug that isn't getting spark but that could be a plug wire holder more than anything, that doesn't worry me as much. So, I assume the yellow and pink carry power back up to the rectifier that charges the battery.

The green/red wire is grounded by the switch to light the neutral light bulb. The yellow and pink wires are a/c leads from the alternator. They are switched together inside the light switch, when the lights are on, for a higher charging rate.

so, when a person tightens down the switch to the headlight bucket, that grounds the neutral bulb? I went out and checked and everything works but that bulb and the one side of the coil, which like I said I think is the spark plug cover. I will get that fixed because I do have spark to the other side. So, the pink and yellow should not have any power to them correct?
