Bad horn

Post by eyhonda » Wed Jun 09, 2010 2:35 pm

I have a cb77 horn that just stopped working. Is it possible to rebuild them or is it serviceable?

Post by jleewebb » Wed Jun 09, 2010 3:15 pm

Hi Eric...

I managed to repair my horn:

Yours may have a different problem, but taking it apart and figuring out how it's supposed to work would be a place to start.

The dome part just pries off, best i can recall.

good luck, Lee

Thanks, Lee. I'll try to inspect it more when I get a chance. I wasn't sure how to pry it open in the first place.

These CB77 horns are easily serviced/repaired and there should never be any reason to throw one out--they should last hundreds of years!

Are you sure it's the horn that is the problem? The switch and wiring connections would be my first suspects.

The wiring is ok since it is working with a temporary horn from a cb175. Anyway, I just got it working! Thanks for all the responses! Great forum! I'm glad I didn't sell it. I just popped it open and tapped it few times and some debrie (sp?) fell out. Then I adjusted the nut for a better tone. Cool! It was surprisingly clean inside too.

Ah, that's nice to hear! The last horn I shook had a colony of dead sow bugs and some grit, but after shaking out the debris, it worked fine!

I take back my second-to-last post! I opened up this spare horn yesterday to see if a broken wire or pitted points were the cause of its failure to make noise...

I'm not sure I will be able to get this working really soon...
