happy man tonight

Post by Mike Mullins » Sun Aug 24, 2008 9:37 pm

Hallelujah Brothers and Sisters ! Warm the snakes and tune the tambourines ! I cleaned my end of the basement from my latest flintlock rifle project, and rearranged the superhawks, which I have not had time to mess with this summer. I then, just for kicks, jumpered the battery from the RD 400 to the best one, and turned the key. THE LIGHTS WORK: THE STARTER WORKS, THE ENGINE TURNS OVER ! This is the one ( of 3 ) that I have titled. It is the best of the bunch (most complete) and looks like it will take the least work to get running. I pulled the carbs, and someone has rebuilt them. New jets and everything clean ( well, now everything is clean.) Looks like I actually will be riding it next spring. Time to hit up the wife for some credit, and buy some tires, and other "necessary stuff." AND the best part of it, TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY ! (59-old enough to know better, and too old to care.)

addendum to happy man

Post by Mike Mullins » Sun Aug 24, 2008 10:10 pm

It occured to me as I was typing the previous message, that I had not hooked up the plugs and grounded them against the head to see if I had spark. Unfortunately I do not. I am still, however, a happy man. I can find the source ( or lack thereof) of spark ( or non-spark, as the case may be.)
I think I will have another ale.

start with checking the points to see if they are rusty or have corosion, that is why i had no spark. start with the simple things first.

Happy belated birthday Mike! Sounds like it may be an easy one. My B-Day is today, and I will definately be having a few ales!

As per suggestions, checked points ( still dont have them right, but they are close and clean) and cleaned connections. Now have spark on both sides, left side better than right, but at this point, spark is spark. Onward and upward. I think I should put the carbs back on, put some gas in the float bowls, and give it a try.
