Tail-light question

Post by joemama » Thu Jun 26, 2008 10:37 pm

Hey guys! This is a great little forum here, and I'm hoping ya'll can answer a question for me. I have a 64 CB77 that I am currently restoring and am presently working on the electrical system. Here is my problem, when I turn the key to the 2nd or "on" position I am unable to get the tail-light to come on regardless of the light switch position. The brake light does work correctly however. When the key is put in the 3rd position the tail-light remains on, which I know is correct as well. So does this sound like normal operation? I have not started the bike yet but I don't think that should have anything to do with it. Any help with this would be great. Thanks everyone!

Tail light

You might check your wiring connection in your headlight bucket. Sounds like you have an issue with the tail light connection coming out of your HL switch.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't see any wire coming from the switch that indicates it goes to the tail light. Fact is, looking at the wiring diagram, I don't see any way that the tail light even gets any power except when the key switch is in 3rd position. I've traced everything and have run into a wall everyway I go. Thanks again and I am gonna check everything again.

Fixed it! Thanks for the help! You made me look again at the schematic and the problem was actually the green wire going to the HL terminal on the key switch had a bad connection. So you were kinda right, and I really appreciate it!
