power drain on battery '64 CA77

Post by persona79 » Wed Mar 14, 2007 6:55 pm

hi,
I've recently picked up a 1964 CA77 honda dream. i was putting a charged up battery in and noticed a small spark when i was connecting the + and -. i thought this was a little funny. but got it running and everything seems pretty ok. however the next morning i go out and the battery is totally dead. seems there is a battery drain. i was wondering what the best course of action is with something like this. thanks a lot.

May be a bad rectifier allowing battery to drain.

I recommend ya get a bike manual with the wireing diagram and check location of every wire.
Also if you leave the key in the wrong position the battery will be drained. ........lm

I second LM's suggestios. There are ways to test the whole charging system, but you may want to just go to Radio Shack and replace the rectifier with a new solid state one. They are only a few dollars and easy to hook up,but that may not be the problem as LM stated. The Radio Shack part number is 276-1185.Alot of restorers are converting to these.
