tail light wiring

Post by steven0356 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 5:32 pm

I just got a '65 305 dream. It came with a new tail light mounted on the fender. The wiring is just wrapped around the light (hanging free) and not connected to anything. I assumed this would be a easy fix, just run the new tail light wire to a buss bar somewhere and plug it in. I am new to working on old bikes as you can tell. The wiring diagram suggests that I would have to run the wire all the way back to where the key is located in the head light. There must be some place else were I can patch the tail light wire back into the original wiring harness. Any suggestions as to where to look?

Thanks

Steve

maybe they just cut the wires under the fender. did you look to see if they are there? i can't imagine someone pulling the wires all the way out . if you can't see any , i'd keep looking forward on the frame until you do. you need one for the tail and one for the brake light

Look under the fender for the pre-existing taillight wires, The wires for the taillight come out on the right hand side (under right cover) and I think they are blue and black if memory serves me correctly. You should be able to connect them here if there are no wires to tie into.

The original wires from the taillight ran under the fender in a channel. There should be a pair of bullet connectors somewhere near the sidecover. And as redlinerob said I think they are blue and black. Its also possible that those connectors got tucked into the frame so you might have to do a little searching but they should be there somewhere.
