Anyone running a Lithium Battery?
Anyone running a Lithium Battery?I was at the Central Virginia Classic Motorcycle Show Sunday and someone told me that he runs a Lithium Battery on his Honda 350 and bypassed the stock charging system. Has anyone done this on the 305? I'm Wondering if this is a good alternative to the stock system. He said he changed the battery at the beginning of the summer and is still riding on the same charge.
I had contacted the folks at Shorai batteries a few months ago. The lithium batteries are very dependent a having a constant charging input of 13.2 to 14.4 volts. This includes at idle, stopped in traffic, etc. Dropping below that will cause rapid discharging, possibly leaving you stranded. They did not recommend it for our normal street-driven applications, as the CA/CB/CL 72/77's charging system could not keep up. Could always strap a Honda generator on the back...... Regards, Chase
Ver good Chase!!!!!!!!!!!!. ....................lm
And to add insult to injury a CB77 does not have a voltage regulator. The battery is used for that job, so if you get the revs up you run the risk of setting the battery on fire.
You can now buy a modern regulator from Sparckmoto.com that will help but I would avoid a LiPo on any really old bike like ours.
