Stator cleaning?

Post by Githianki » Fri Nov 30, 2007 7:04 am

How clean does/should the stator be? Apparently the seal on that side of the engine leaks and will need to be replaced. The whole stator was covered in oil, and I want to clean it off. Can I use some modern electrical contact cleaner on it? Or is there something else I should be using?

In my opinion, it is not necessary to get it very clean. A little WD40, and a soft tooth brush if you want to remove some of it is OK. You could do damage to the insulation if you try too strong of cleaner. The stator will be fine, if it is not perfectly clean.

Yeah, I know it doesn't have to be sparkling pretty, but there is a significant amount of oil and crud on it to warrant a little dust up.

So as long as it's not too harsh, and something that wont harm plastic I should be fine...
