Between us we seem to have posted a considerable number of words - I more than most - on this subject. But, thanks to the posts of deaddog, Vince Lupo and others, I think we may have a relatively painless solution to the low charge-rate experienced with our bikes: replacing the celenium rectifier with this one http://www.radioshack.com/family/index. ... 58.2032230 or one from RetroBikes www.olypen.com/retro appears to improve the available output voltage considerably.
I don't wish to labour the point, but please read various forum posts to find results; the proof is bubbling to the surface that the old heat-producing celenium rec is, by today's technology's standards, inadequate and antiquated. By replacing it with the silicon-diode bridge rectifier in the link, the charging system becomes more efficient by 2 to 3VDC; this gain is converted to a healthy couple of Amps of extra charge once the battery's thirst for acceptable terminal-voltage is satisfied.
If using the 25-Amp rec from Radio Shack:
Do use a heat sink of adequate size in order to dissipate the heat comfortably. Do bolt the rec onto the heat sink absolutely flat, and do use heat transfer compound (paste) on the face of the rec before bolting down tight. Radio Shack can supply aluminium heat sinks and heat transfer compound, both very inexpensive items.
If DD's & Vince's charge improvements are anything to go by, you won't be disappointed!

Here is a picture of how I mounted mine. I did use the paste between the regulator and heat sink. I also posted cool jersey that I just got from metroracing.com.

i was wondering what you guys think about this rectifier, besides the fact that it is overpriced.

Hey Deez, I'd say that that rec must be a new-fangled platinum type, potted in a titanium case with solid gold cables!

Read back thru the posts; there are low-cost recs aplenty to be had.

Ok, here it is. For those of you who just can't live with the output of your original Honda equipment, Rick's Motorcycle Electrics now has a kit that fit's the 305's as well as the 350 and 360. It's a replacement single phase, full wave system with a new stator and modern rectifier/regulator. I'd be giving you a review, but my stock sytem works fine, so I don't feel the need to throw another $225 at it right this second.
Maybe after I install the fog lights, air horn, digital 7 speaker sound system and dvd player with on screen GPS.
