stator

Post by russ » Wed Jun 11, 2014 5:02 pm

is there a do it yourself way to remagnatise the stator ? my windings seem fine but I only get about 12.5 volts or so . have a kohler reg/rect on bike , it charged the same with orig rect. have a dif stator / rotor , whatever , it didn't produce as much as the other so I swapped back to original one . on a rev it never passes 13 volt about 12.2 at low idle 12.87 high . 305 dream, txs for ideas

Actually the voltage you are seeing is about normal. I have been working on this voltage problem for awhile. I have tried stock rectifier, Radio Shack rectifier and a Kohler regulator rectifier. Also two different stators and rotors. I have also tied both alternator outputs together so I get full charging capacity with the headlight off.

So far the results you are getting are about he same as mine. Just over 13VDC. Let me know if you find a way to make it better.

Russ

The stator (part with the windings) is not magnetised. The magnets are in the rotor and can be re-magnetised by a skilled shop. Look on the 'net for someone in your area.
