Neutral light, headlight, and taillight not working

Post by nikola25 » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:33 am

Hello honda 305 forums. I'm having some issues with a dream I'm working on. The bike starts and runs fine. The horn works and the light in the speedo works but my headlight, tail light, and neutral light arent functioning. Can anyone provide any assistance into why these 3 seem to not function?

nevermind on the neutral. that light appears to work as it's supposed to. So just headlight and tail light

You have one of three things going on. No power, no ground, or bad bulbs. Get a 12V test light and check it out. The electrical systems on these bikes are as simple as simple gets. The wiring schematic is posted many places in this forum.

With bulbs, always start with the obvious question... is the bulb good? Hit it with 12V directly from the battery and grounded to the battery. If no-lightie, bad bulbie. If lightie, use the test light and check for 12V to the bulb. If you don't have 12V, find out why. If you do, check the ground circuit because it is the problem.

The headlight dimmer switch can be a source of poor contact and a lack of power to the headlight because it is the component that directs power to the high or low beam.
