1965 CL77 3 position combination switch wiring

Post by aborgman » Wed Jan 11, 2012 11:07 am

I'm helping my father rebuild the electrical system on a 1965 CL77, and I need a connection diagram for the 3 position combination/ignition switch.

I'm using the following wiring diagram:

Which has a switch connection diagram - but it is missing one terminal. So basically I need to know how the "charge" terminal connects in each of the two positions.

Also which position is the "run" position and which is the "parking lights" position?

My understanding is that the switch does not do anything with the CHG wires, besides connect them together. You can put an ohm meter to the white and red wires on the back of the switch. You'll get continuity when the switch is in tail light position. There are other more electically inclined members that may rifute some of this info!

So to replace the switch it sounds like I can get away with:

1) tying the two CH wires (one from rectifier and one from battery)
2) tying the HL/TL connections
3) Using a SPST (standard on/off) keyswitch for BAT/IG
