COILNo
There are no coils on it, just laminated strips. It's probably there just to complete the magnetic 'circuit' with the rotor. British alternators usually have a continuous core but these are separate. A ballast resistor would have a winding and would certainly have some electrical connections to it....... G '60 C77 '60 C72 '62 C72 Dream '63 CL72

I can see one coil wound with heavier gauge wire than the other. Reminds me of the discussion recently trying to sort out a charging issue on a 305 Dream a member here was having.
Any chance this is just a very small rig for charging and lights and the missing coil, to Davo's point, is used on other bikes, maybe with electric start, and that need to charge a little bigger battery? The older Japanse Service Manuals do a great job of decribing why a system is designed as it is and how it works. But I don't think this came out of an C90 or any of it's SOHC brethren. It uses a multi-pole stator, rotor like our 305's and a set of points driven off the cam. Maybe it came off a Cub or similar. I see a new parts bag in the background. So I don't think it "came off" anything. Are you trying to determine what bike this fits? It also looks brand new. To be honest, it looks more like a Honda lawnmower or outboard motor part to me. regards, Rob
