'62 c72 neutral light

Post by ffug » Mon Aug 08, 2011 7:34 am

Neutral light only lights while engine is running (is this normal) and brightness increases with engine revs until it blows -even at relatively low revs.
Voltage at globe reads 6.4v going to 6.8v with increased revs!
Globe flickers with engine revs
All other lights ok.
All other lights work without engine running.
New fully charged battery.
New rectifier.
gone through a range of new 12v 2,3 and 4watt globes.
Any ideas?

One of the wires from the AC generator is plugged into the Neutral wire coming from the headlight bucket?

I assume the light goes out when in gear and on when in neutral.
Check for proper connections in HL bucket.
I recommend ya check ALL connections.
Even the one behind the kick starter cover.
Go to the ones in the headlight bucket first.
Pull each apart then insert them as this will/should clean that connection.
Ground at switch behind the KS cover to lamp to battery through the bulb.
Go for it. ...........lm

Thanks for that.
Had the LGr/R and P wires at stator bundle reversed!
Combination of being red/green colour blind and faded old wires.
Thanks for your help.

Yes thanks, all good now.
Neutral light comes on with ignition, no flickering and no blown globe- think it was getting 24V.AC!
Peeled back some of the black insulation to reveal non faded wire colours.
Cheers
