I don't know if this came up, but I just got my new battery at Walmart:
"Everstart Power Sport" #ES12N94B1. It fits my 1966 CB77 rubber battery tray perfectly and is 5.5" tall. The terminals are perfectly placed.
$30 + $9 core charge.

Battery is working quite nicely. The only prob is the fit is a bit tighter than I had estimated (height). The batter was pressed up against the Asian aftermarket seat pan and starting to arc when I tried to install the seat (yeah yeah ... I know). So I removed the rubber battery tray and placed a piece of 1/2" insulating material on top of the batter before I put the seat on. Seems to be ok now. Dunno if vibration will be an issue or not yet ... we shall see ... if my butt starts to get warm ... lol Otherwise all is well ... tons of juice. I keep a tender on it here and there too. Dana

Battery sizeMorning Spent the last two days trying to find a battery that is less than 5in. high Height is the problem. It should be 2.4 in.wide or less and 4 3/4 in. long or less. As long as I don't turn the headlamp on would it still start with less?I believe it is 5AH now. would a 3AH or less work??? Somebody please let me know . I don't want to dink around and cut the battery box to modify it.
My gut tells me size (AH) shouldn't matter as far as starting and running. Do I need a antacid??? Thanks for any response.........

I think a forum search for "MB9U" will yield some discussion. I finally broke down and got one after going through two Yuasas in a couple of years. It comes filled and charged, no acid to mess with. It's a universal battery, so has a couple of spacers on bottom that need to be removed. Fits perfect then. They recommend initial charging for 24 hours with a trickle charger/maintainer, rather than a standard 2-amp charger. I think somebody here said he'd never had use an external charger with his, but I went ahead and got one just to be on the safe side. They say it'll fit a later model (63+) Dream as well, can't vouch for that.
