Key positions??? Bolt for alternator keyway.

Post by Terry McKitrick » Thu Sep 07, 2006 11:11 pm

I am partway through rewiring my 1966 CP77. The only key position that works so far (I have horn, starter and spark) is the middle one. What do the left and right positions do?

Also, the genius (not) who started the restoration lost the nut that goes into the alternator keyway to hold the magnet in place. I had a 16mm nut, that was too big. Is it 15 or 14 mm?

On mine the key at 11 o'clock is 'off' and the key can be pulled out. The key at 1 o'clock is some weird parking deal where everthing is off except the taillight, and the key wont come out.

I always wondered why a CA77 (Dream) and CA95 (150 Benly Touring Dream) have 5 key positions and the CB77 only 3. Anyone?

The "park" position is in case you get stuck on the side of the road, like a hazard light that doesn't blink. Nearly all bikes have this.
