Most problems are best solved by the process of elimination. Since your battery spins the starter and runs the bike your battery and ground cable are good. In past threads here you may have read that the starter solenoid operates by grounding the start button. Look at the wiring diagram posted here recently to see the circuit. Try bypassing the wire (yellow w/red stripe) to find a possible problem there. Again using the wiring diagram you will see that one of the smaller wires on top of the solenoid is black w/red stripe. This comes from the key switch and supplies 12v to the solenoid. With the key in the starting/run position check the voltage at this terminal to the battery ground. 12v should be there. If the voltage is low your key switch may be dirty (doubtful) Again with the key on, use a jumper to ground the OTHER small wire terminal (yellow w/red stripe) to a good ground. The solenoid should engage and spin the starter. If all these fail then your solenoid is at fault. If water got into the solenoid "can" then rust may be preventing it from moving up to close the starting circuit to the starter. They can be opened and inspected, just pay particular attention to the fiber washers that are on the large terminals. They must go back like they came out or you may end up with a short (lots of sparks and burning wires) Take pics or draw diagrams. Clean the copper contacts and the copper bar with fine sandpaper to shiny bright. Reassemble and try. I bet one of these problems will show up and explain your problem.
