Thanks Ed. Will assemble with washers & without to check on differences. I suspect that the washers rotate and reduce the "stick/slip" torque when tightening the nipples. I would also believe that the distance that the spoke is seated in the nipple will be a factor (might stick out too much beyond nipple without washers).
