stock wheels and covers 1965 honda dream ca77

I am wondering if anyone knows what to do to the wheels and side covers on the motor if you want them to be as they were when they were new. I polished up a set of wheels and put the new croker white wall tires on them and they look great but I would like my next project to be as close to factory stock as possible. As I was polishing it looked as if they were plated or painted or something.

The wheels are chrome plated, spokes are zinc plated. Hubs are not plated or painted.

Both side covers are painted. Do a search and you will find different opinions on which brand of paint and color matches the original. Something along the lines of a dull aluminum or silver. Another concern is getting one that is fuel resistant.

The hubs are really what I'm wondering about. I have cleaned the rims and buffed out each spoke on the buffing wheel but am unsure how to clean up the hub. The polish up great but I want them to look stock and not polished but I don't know how to make them look clean and new? Any help?

I guess my advise for the hubs would be to maybe polish them for uniformity and then just let them be after that. After a while they won't look new but won't look old and ratty either. Not sure if that makes sense or not.

Yellow, I think the hubs were originally clear coated. You would have to strip them, polish and re-clear for a factory look............................D

Have the spokes plated in either zinc or cadnium, or they will rust. Find a plater in your area, and you can get all nuts, bolts, brackets spokes etc done for $80-$100. Or check out the thread "for the home plating specialist.
