Cleaning engine and repaint
Cleaning engine and repaintHi Guys, wondering if any of you have tips on getting engine cases, heads and barrels show condition clean. Looking to do this in the home workshop not pay specialist. Also whats best for repainting outer casings similar to original (rather than polishing) Specialist job or home workshop ?
Thanks Ian Paint for casesI painted my LH and RH cases with Krylon Dull Aluminum Color #1403.
I believe this is the specified color from David Silver's restoration guide. You can find several threads here discussing this particular paint. BTW, They look great!!! Gary '65 CL77 Owner
What kind of media blasting gun?Just a general question, what brand and style media blasting gun did you use? The one that I have keeps getting clogged and it seems like a piece of junk. I an curious to know what other people are using. I have clean media, plenty of air pressure so it might be my gun.
SIZE DOES MATTERMY SAND BLASTING CABINET GUN CAME WITH 4 OR 5 DIFFERENT SIZED TIPS, THEY ARE CERAMIC AND I UNDERSTAND THEY WEAR OUT WITH USE. BY SELECTING THE PROPER SIZE TIP YOU CAN CONTROL THE FLOW OF MEDIA THRU THE GUN. SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED A LARGER TIP. I HAVE USED GLASS BEADS AND ALUMINUM OXIDE FOR DIFFERENT PROJECTS AND I HAVE HEARD GROUND WALNUT SHELLS ARE THE HOT SET-UP FOR CLEANING ALUMINUM PARTS.

MediaThanks Fred. I ended up buying a new cabinet that came with a gun. It works great!!! I am very pleased with the results so far. I used glass media to blast my carb and it looks like new. I will post some pictures up as soon as possible. I heard that walnut was also good on plastic parts like the knobs that hold on the side covers. I might buy some this weekend and give that a try. So far everything is going great on my restoration of two 305 Dreams.
