Market for old CB77 racer?

I inherited my brothers late 60's-70's CB77 racer and have decided I will never do anything with it, except watch it rot away. I have a contact who would like to have it but wants me to come up with a price. I could eventually add some pix but for now any thoughts appreciated.

The engine has Forgedtrue 350cc kit, H&C roller tappet cams, Honda 5 spd. gearbox, webco high volume oil pump, Honda long taper megaphones, Dellorto remote float bowl racing carbs/velocity stacks, battery/points ignition however there is a box with a crank triggered self contained mag style ignition somewhere in the mix.

The frame has period reinforcing, long glass road race tank and small seat w/f.glass rear tail, fairing has been lost, flanged alloy rims, lightened Honda rear drum brake, Yam TZ250 4ls front brake, stock forks, Honda rear sets.

The bike is dusty/dirty but complete, I know he parked it to buy and win on 2 strokes so this bkie has been set away for a long time, engine turns over but I don't plan to service and fire it up, any thoughts or is this just to vague? Thanks for any input, Mark

It's always hard to put a price on such things as the market is relatively small and results can vary significantly from one bike to another. Some collectors value originality while others prize condition. Get two guys in the same room who just have to have it and who knows what can happen.

Without looking at it and based simply on your description I'd say it is a $3k-$4k bike. Maybe. That depends on just how good it looks once cleaned up and someone figures out what's needed to make it run.

For $8k-$10k I'd expect a brand new restoration of a race machine to a very high standard. $15k for the trickest, most sorted and race winning machines. I think the market might be slightly stronger in the UK due to their classic racing eligibility rules. Good luck!

Dear Freedomgli, You are out on your figures at the top end of the scale for CB72/77 Racers. There is a hell of a lot of work in a pointy end racer. The figures you quote do not come near. No offence intended. All the best Jerry

I've been offered 4k with the spares but don't want to part with the whole shabang yet as I've kept my dad's '62 CB77 that we've had since new, so would like to have extra parts on hand. The spares include a lot of new factory parts, spare engines, frame etc. and I half way want to build a small street fighter with a 90/270 crank out of the extras, just for fun. My brother wanted me to take the 350 kit and tranny out of the racer and put in the '62 but that would be wrong I think, esp. since that engine ('62) has never been out of the frame. Nothing wrong with a stock '62...Mark
