intro, and a question about engine and frame numbers...

Post by blackdog » Sun Oct 30, 2011 7:30 pm

Hi all!

My name is Jim, I live in the Puget Sound area of Washington state, and I joined the ranks of Dream owners today. I think it is a '66 CA77. It is nearly complete (wrong pipes/mufflers, no mirrors and no tank badges) but not running. motor and rear wheel frozen. I will be ordering books n' stuff later, but can someone here tell me where to find the frame number? i found the motor number (F1004-102), and i have some original documents that have a number of SA 77 100 4074 . is that the chassis number? where can i confirm that this is really a '66 dream 305?

Jim; you will have to get down on the ground on the left side and look below the battery cover on the frame to see the #'s. usually covered in grease so take a rag with you. where in wa. are you?
Thanks
Randy

thanks for Randy for the help. I found the numbers and can now safely say that this afternoon I purchased a Honda Dream 305: engine CA77E1004 102, frame CA78 1004074. so is this a CA77 or a CA78? what's the difference?

thanks, all!

Jim,
Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of 305 mania. A word of caution here; these bikes get quite addictive at times and if you are not careful, you can end up with a garage full of spare parts that breed and multiply when the wife isn't looking.
Post pics when you get the chance and keep us up to date on your progress. If you need a hand, feel free to ask, I'm right down the road and in your area frequently. Rusty

CA77 vs CA78

Post by conbs » Tue Nov 01, 2011 4:59 pm

CA77 will be 1960 to midyear 1963 with early tank. CA78 is everything after mid-year 1963 (I don't think anyone knows exactly which frame number) and will have the late tank.
