I'm wanting to find out the year of a bike I might purchase.
doesn't have a title.
frame and engine both have 7 digits.
frame is ca78-10213xx
engine is ca77e-10213xx.
the last 2 numbers were different.
From what info I have gathered, I'm thinking either a '64 or '65
but not for sure.

Hard to say for sure, my "66 titled" 305 is 2,000 earlier in serial number than your proposed purchase, but there is no clear serial number cutoff for later year models. They were usually titled the year they were sold.

He is looking for the title, but since I haven't heard from him in a few days, I'm not counting on it.
I will still try to get it, but the reason I was trying to find out the year was so if I have to apply for
a new title, what year should I tell them, or do I tell them anything?

He should apply for a replacement title, so he can legally sell it to you!
