What would make a '64 Dream CA77's coils get very hot? I was trying to track down a no-headlight problem, and in the course of running the bike on the lift I discovered the coil got very hot!
A whole lot of resistance would make a coil hot, but according to my C77 schematic, the coils ground out through the spark plugs, and all the wiring is where it should be, or at least appears to be...there IS a female black wire-lead in the headlight bucket that comes off the wiring harness that doesn't appear to have a mate, and the speedometer gauge light wire is brown...little things like that. I'm thinking a PO may have switched out the original strater switch...
Did I hook up the coil wrong? (reverse polarity??) It's an aftermarket coil, with one Yellow wire and one Black wire coming off the coil itself, in addition to the two sparkplug leads.
Hot Coil??
I got it off the 'Bay, from 2FastMoto I believe - 12-volt, two-lead coil...is there a difference?
I've ordered from them before and had no problems... While we're on the subject, the switch that's in there is a five-position switch - is there a reference as to what each position does - or should do - as you turn the key?
