New MemberNew MemberHi,
I'm a new member, just bought my first Dream or maybe a Nightmare. It is a '64 that was sold as a parts bike but I plan to make it a long term (a very long term) restoration. $(KGrHqJHJBwE+KH,k3oVBQONp(KrRw~~60_57 by catterar, on Flickr $T2eC16FHJF8E9nnC6Nm7BQONqCZsPQ~~60_57 by catterar, on Flickr $T2eC16FHJFoE9nh6nBN8BQONq,Oeww~~60_57 by catterar, on Flickr $T2eC16NHJIkE9qU3jcL9BQONprSllQ~~60_57 by catterar, on Flickr $T2eC16hHJHYE9nzpgI2vBQONsMyeYw~~60_57 by catterar, on Flickr The bike has no key and no title. Wish me luck. I hope I haven't posted too many photos, The Fiat X1/9 forum I'm on begs for photos. Bob Cattera Welcome. I think your bike is newer than a 64 based on where that clutch cable is coming out of the engine case. (assuming the engine side cover hasn't been changed) Post your engine serial number and your frame serial number (directly below the brake light switch/battery ground strap. It runs vertically and is usually obscured by grease and grime but it's there. Somebody will confirm the year for you.

2002 BMW R1150GS Frame and Engine NumbersI haven't picked the bike up yet. I will drive to Charleston, SC on Tuesday the 4th of Sep to bring it home.
It is an evil-bay purchase and the seller listed the frame number as CA78-1021025 and the engine number as CA77E-1020976. I know it is like buying a pig in a polk, but even if it is not worth restoring I'll have a stash of some useable parts. I figured for $332 I couldn't go wrong. Seller says the motor is not frozen so that's a point in the bikes favor. I'll learn more on Tuesday. Bob Cattera I'm afraid to ask, what is the expensive stuff, and what would be a ball park figure to put this bike back on the road? I'm not looking to build a show bike but I do want it to look decent and be period correct. Are we talking $2,000, $5,000 or more?
Would I be better off finding a more complete bike and using this for parts as it was advertised? Thanks, Bob Some Progress PicsWell I've had the bike for nearly a year and a half and have made some progress but still have a long way to go. The first thing I did was obtain a North Carolina Title. I did not want to spend money restoring a bike I could never ride.
I'm sure Eljeef is correct and the bike is newer than a '64, but I titled it as a '64 because that's what the Ebay seller listed it as. When I pulled the wire harness the tag on it said Sumito 1965. I have had the bike running but have only ridden it up the driveway into the garage. The tires were shot and would only hold air for a matter of minutes. Got the new tires from my wife for Christmas and just got them mounted. I have replaced the handlebars and I'm having trouble getting the throttle tube/hinge to work. When I start the bike it revs to full throttle. Nothing I can't correct just haven't had the time to dig into it. I also have a short in the taillight circut. If I disconnect the taillight wire in the distribution box the short goes away, if the wire is connected the fuse blows when I turn the key to the second position. Again time is the only thing holding me back on this. Here are some pics of what the bike looks like today. 892_0819 by catterar, on Flickr 892_0818 by catterar, on Flickr 892_0820 by catterar, on Flickr The expensive items so far - mufflers New repro $1200 - used - $150/250 - Offshore similar less than $100. Chain case - you don't need but figure about 150/200.
Front and rear rim - offshore about $75 pair - Spokes - stainless from Buchanan - 220 set - off shore for about $75 a set will work if the right length. Tires $40 - Right and left side covers 30/60 Tail light (I have a complete one all new except for lense for $20) Tank emblems - reproductions $45 chain $50 Time - priceless - If you are careful (and a cheapskate like me) you can probably get all the parts for $500/$600 if you get cheap mufflers. You will find ebay prices all over the map. Watch closely to get a reasonasblr deal.
