Dream Headlight

I would guess as a general rule that if it doesn't say Stanley it was not OEM Honda. But....

In the end (unless you are showing it) if your headlight fits and works well - and you have parts that fit together - there is probably no reason for any concern. If I understand correctly, the Stanley bulb will fit all the headlights with changeable bulbs. Anyone disagree?

When I went through this, I was trying to find a socket to fit a NIB reflector. I bought one on eBay not knowing (or looking to see) what would fit. I was trying to figure out how to make the spring work when all I needed was the right rubber boot.

Even if you ARE showing your bike, what judge could say definitively that your headlight is not OEM Honda? What judge would have any idea without making you remove it (though that adjustment screw at the bottom is fairly unique)? Even then, if it says "Stanley" anywhere that would be hard to get around. I would go to the mat on that one, even though the one on the right in your picture has a different looking spring than what shows up in the parts manual.

BTW do you have any issues with the back of the socket for the one on the left hitting your speedo when the headlight is mounted?

I am not aware of any issues. I have never had this bike roadworthy. The speedo was seized and the headlamp was securely in place. I am working on getting it together now with the goal of having a mechanically sound motorcycle albeit perhaps not a "pretty" one. On a side note the bulbs I found that I thought were a direct replacement are 35/25 watt instead of 35/30 watt like I think it should be or at least is what the lamp on the left called for.

LED Headlight

Ever consider an LED? I found these on eBay and the vendor says they do have high and low beam (some don't). They are cheap enough. I don't know how bright they really are but, are probably worth a try. They come from Hong Kong so delivery should be within a couple weeks. They are an H4 bulb. They may fit as is or could be trimmed to fit into your reflector. I have no idea how the depth would affect the dispersion of light in the reflector.

Turning the start switch to "headlight on" position kicks in the extra windings in the dyno and I am not sure how an LED might affect things since these won't draw nearly the juice that the originals did. A guy would at least want to check and make sure it is not overcharging your battery. You would probably need to fabricate a wiring harness and possibly bend the connectors at 90 degrees to avoid hitting the speedo. A friend was blowing fuses when he turned his headlights on. Turned out the headlight wiring was hitting the speedo and the rubber finally wore out creating a short to ground.

Let us know if you try them.
