gearbox issue

I am having a problem with the gear box on the Dream.
Before I go diving in and taking the engine out is there anything to look out for or check first.
Whats happening is its getting stuck between gears between second and third I think its difficult to be sure because when it happens I have to try to change up and down so many times to release it.
Its like a false neutral. Its embarrassing stuck at the traffic likes trying to find a gear any gear.
The clutch is working fine ( its not dragging )
I will see to it over the winter after I get the Aermacchi I have just bought running.
Has anyone got a good speedo for the Dream for sale without me having to sell my house to pay for it.
