Re: CA77 ClutchWhat do you mean the CA77 plates are thicker?
The first one has always been thicker than the other 3/4 until when HONDA made the VERY thick first plate. .....lm
Hey Mouse are you sure? Wouldn't that mean there would be different part numbers and specs for the different parts. I only see one part number for the 5 plates (per IN). The manual says the spec thickness for CA77s is 4.7mm-4.9mm with 4.4mm as a service limit for all 5. The CB77 is the 2.9-3.0mm with 2.5 as a service limit for all 6 plates. If I put 5 thinner plates in I beleive it will still slip. The worn original plates are thicker than the new ones I got for the repair job. Also the IN states all models get the same plate?! Did I miss a service bulliten or something. The only way I can see this is to add another pressure plate. This is my first CA77 clutch repair and I am having a confusing time. Never a problem with CLs or CBs in 40 years. Shew....Any light you (or anyone) can sheed on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hey Hahnda I have not check Ohio but that is a good idea. I will let you know. There must be a bunch of guys on here who have had success with this clutch repair> Yes? Maybe I am getting old:)
Hey Ross.
In 1966/67 HONDA issued the Cush Drive with different springs and a thick (twice as thick as the other 4) 1st steel with 4 steel that have anti warp slots in the middle area. The friction disc (5) are aluminum core with black neoprene/cork on them. As the DREAM engine is essentially the same engine as the CB/CL72/77 engine and you don't have problems with them why don't you use one that you are familiar with. BTW HONDA issued 9 different set ups (5/4/6/5) for these engines and the 66/67 was in my opinion the best ever. The last issue friction had 020 as the sub number. Please add your location to your location area where you joined this group. ......lm
Hey Mouse good info. This is a 1966 and it has all the items you discribed. I would like to keep it as stock if I could get the right thickness plates, but will settle for working well first. Is there no avalibity for the 4.9mm plates?
I will edit the location right after this post. It is Orlando FL if I do not succeed.
