What do I HAVE???

Post by dreaming » Sun Jul 24, 2011 10:45 am

Just bought a 66 305 dream yesterday. Rode it back about 110 miles and it was a little under powered. It just wasn't running right. It would stutter through the throttle, and I was only able to get up to about 70mph. Tank was rusty inside, so that needs cleaned obviously, along with the carb. However, when I went to adjust the points I see a points plate with only 1 point like my ca72. I thought the 305's had 2 sets of points. And when I checked the timing marks it says "C72(L)", with no left indicating marks. It has WAY more power than my 250 dream so I can't believe it has a 250 in it. Engine case says CA77. CRAP. What did I do?

Also, when checking the timing, I can only adjust it to about10 degrees past the double marks.

I'd say ya bought a 305 DREAM.
It shares all engine parts from the 250 but has a larger bore.
Other than the bore the engines are the same. ...............lm

(SIGH!!!) Thanks LM. I get a little paranoid sometimes. I did notice the points were different than on my 250. Also, what do you think would cause the timing to be so far off? I only tested it while running, not the static test. WAY advanced, and I couldn't move the points plate far enough to correct it.
