What year CA77?
Actually the frame number is in order of issue and until 1965 through 1967 we have good info.
That said I had a CL72 with the first number as a 3 and ALL THE PARTS were the SAME AS THE 1962 and the title showed FIRST REGISTERED in 1962. Also in the tool box was a California tag with FIRST REGISTERED in 1962 printed on it with all the other data. The date on the harness is the year it was assembled so not always necessarily the actual date of bike issue. That's what I know/think. ...........lm
CA77 vs CA78So is there any difference between CA77 and CA78 or between C77 and C78?
Re: CA77 vs CA78Not really.
How bout CA77 and CA78 rather than C77 and C78 (no C78 but there were/are C77) .............lm Like he said that frame does show C78. OK. They are both HONDA DREAM 305 CC and the 78 was as stated earlier for US export. ................lm

Re: CA77 vs CA78yeah but the poster does have C78 on his frame, so i think we are wondering the dif between the 77 anthe 78 OR is the CA77 and the C77 the same? sorry im cornfused.
LM, you mention Bill Silver publications. Are there a set of books he's done or are you talking about the Classic Honda Motorcycles book? Since I'm just getting started I really need to educate myself on these bikes. Hopefully I can avoid stupid mistakes like not realizing the chain guard was missing until a week after I got the bike home :(
Also, any suggestions on any valuation books like the NADA? I have VJEMC price guide but their prices seem all over the place from what I've seen actually sell. Thanks in advance!
Hi,
What year is on the main wiring tag ? The C78 frame number is introduced in 1964, but I have seen some C78 frame's with a a 1963 tag (wiring harness). A C78 always has a tubular steering, never plate steering, until proven otherwise. That doesn't mean that a C77 frame always has a plate steer, I have seen C77 frames with a tubular steering. I have never seen a engine starting with C78E, and I can't find any info proving a C78 E engine number exists, but who knows. According to my information the A stands for America, and a CA77 engine has a different transmission, please verify in the parts manual for transmission parts if you need them. Jensen assembly of Japanese motorcycles requires great peace of mind (Pirsig)
