getting confused

Post by Teddyb3 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 4:40 pm

OK got my 305 tore down and most of it is in primer right now. When I got it there was no fuel tank so I purchased one off ebay. Got all the paint off it and poured in some evaporust to let it soak but as I poured it in it came out several places it shouldn't. I am not going to try a band aid fix for it but where is a good company to get it redone and sealed.

Also where can I get a inexpensive set of mufflers, exhaust pipes and rims for this bike?

The bike is a 1964 (by the wiring harness) and will not be redone as a rider but more of a bike to show locally for enjoyment (planning on towing behind my Goldwing to and from shows). So items do not have to be original but would like them as close as possible without spending huge amounts of money. When it is not being showed it will be displayed in my family room (man cave).

I used a tube of Liquid Steel or some such from the hardware store to patch up a pin-holy 1978 CX500 tank; it goes on like a paste, but hardens like...well, steel...I think if you want to get it professionally redone and sealed, take it to a radiator shop and see what They can do to it...and I shudder at the implications of turning over a 40-some year old rare piece of bike to someone who may or may not care about hard-to-find, hard-to-replace bike parts...although they Are pretty sturdy..

As soon as you find out, please let me (and all the rest of us here) know! :)

JC Whitney has some workable pipes; not too bad...I'm still trying to find 'inexpensive' rims...

But seriously, if you're not going to ride it...if it's not going to RUN...why bother spending all that time and (believe me) money? If not, that's a pretty expensive paper-weight you're fixing up...I mean, it's really none of my business, but I think if you go all the way to restoring it..why not start it? Believe me, you'll probably get more attention for the Dream than you would a Goldwing...

Just my two cents. Anyway, I hope I helped.

It will run but only at the shows I take it to. The ca95's that I have will be the ones that are ridden occasionally. But when I go for a ride I usually go several hundred miles at a time so I take my Goldwing with the Mrs on the back.

Redoing this bike is more of a hobby for me. And then showing it and seeing the people's expressions and comments will make it worthwhile for me.
