I finally signed up

Post by Chaunceyrae » Fri Feb 27, 2009 2:10 pm

We (my kids and I) finished restoring my fathers 1967 305 Dream last summer. It was some fantastic family time just talking while we worked. Times I will never forget, I hope they won't. I must say we could not have done it without information from this forum. Timing, Carburetor, Charging Sytem, on and on. I was on here reading during my lunch time for weeks. A wealth of information here and some great advice. Thanks alot folks.

I have attached a picture of my Dream.
We did all the work except the upholstery ourselves. We did not tear down the engine, didn't need to. It's a real attention getter. Most younger people have never seen one and the older guys all have great memories of them.

We still have some work to do, clutch is starting to slip a little, but with 22000+ miles on the odometer I can understand that.

updated infomation

The clutch finally got to slipping so bad I couldn't take off from a light. We replaced all the clutch discs, both the metal and the friction discs. When I opened up the crankcase cover I was quite supprised to see only three clutch springs and bolts. The forth was not in the clutch or crankcase. The bolt and been twisted off sometime during it's life. I replaced the bolt and all four clutch springs. While it was down I replaced the drive chain and both the front and rear drive sprockets. Now a new problem is starting to creep up. I am getting a clattering noise behind the points at anything above an idle. Timing advance mechanism?

Guess I need to start searching the topic in the forums here.

Beautiful looking work, on both counts! I'm considering a CB450K0 (sorry Rob!) for my next project, but I'm having second thoughts now.

I think I should start my CB-project in earnest first though.......

It's time to reroute those front cables. The Dream is suppossed to be slick and clean. The cables are to run between the front fender and the forks and come out below the fender. Both sides for the Speedo and Brake cables route the same. I was told by an older timer that's the way they are suppossed to be.

The turning signals are off a more modern bike and I converted one of the Buco lights to a turn signal in each bag.

Kind of wish I'd redone my seat in white instead of black. that looks really good with the red strap and black piping.
