I didn't even realize I was looking for you until today. I am not an owner yet, but I will be as soon as I find the right bike. I have spent hours reading and learning. I have been one of those "Z50" guys for a long time but this is truly amazing and enlightening stuff. You just don"t know what you don't know until you know it.
Here would be my first in a long line of questions:
Paint color. I realize the inherent value of these 305 Dreams. I also realize that most people will say to do what you want. We all know there is some flexibility between both. Do you think that painting a mid 60's Dream any color other than stock would significantly devalue it? There are some vintage colors that may look very nice on a wide white-walled Dream, but if it tanks the value in the eyes of a future buyer, it would not be worth it since stock colors are very nice.
Is there a stock blue color out there that I have not seen?
I went through Paul's restoration of his Dream and his C200. WOW, what a guy huh? I have also read the Dream threads back to the beginning.
Yes, I am the over-enthusiastic newbie.
Where have you guys been??
I would think the only way to devalue any vehicle with a non-stock paint job is if the vehicles factory paint job was still in great/excellent shape. If it needs painting, paint it whatever color you like. It can be restored back to original some day if you or a future owner wants to do so.
My Dream, that I've been working on for 2 years, won't be all original and it will turn off some purists. But that is OK, it is my bike and I've not done any thing that can't be undone, just in case 1966 CA77 prices go the way of the 71 Hemi Cuda.
