C72 from France
Re: C72 from FranceDismantling continues.
the oil pump strainer screen is partially missing, and what little remains disintegrates when touched. The pump shows no visible damage or residue. I'm going to open it up to check that pieces of the strainer haven't been swallowed. I found a new strainer in an old stock to replace it.
Re: C72 from FranceThe rust on the frame is a real pain, I would get it shot blasted to show any other areas of concern, my C95 was really bad, right on the verge of not being repairable.
Re: C72 from FranceGreat to see you diving in, Sky Fred! From the couple of glimpses at your garage and your method, I think the bike is in good hands!
Geoff, I'd love to see the following three photos of how your fender/frame repair progressed. -- Michael
Re: C72 from FranceI'm starting to get the hang of it.

Re: C72 from FranceReturning to C72.....
The frame doesn't have any weaknesses but the welds aren't very nice and will require a lot of cosmetic work to make it look good. I'll do that later as my seller had another frame in very good condition and I'm going to mount it once sandblasted and repainted The saddle is .... how to say .... The foam on the passenger seat is as hard as concrete and the rider's is disintegrating. I'm having it redone by a saddler friend of mine with a havana brown covering.
Re: C72 from FranceHi Michael,
I did post the completed frame repair a while ago but for those new to site I’ll show the photos again. Being double skinned meant I had to do it in stages to avoid distortion. Once near completion I used a laser to check for alignment and tweaked the frame before finally finishing the welding.
Re: C72 from FranceMy frame is much less damaged, the repairs have been done but it's not very aesthetic and needs to be repaired.
I've tackled the engine overhaul. I opened the oil pump. No worries. I cleaned it and put in a new internal gasket. I also dismantled the centrifugal cleaner. It was relatively clean. Two parts are missing: 24 (pin oil filter) and 25 (washer filter). Do you know the thickness of this washer?
