1967 CL77 Front Axle1967 CL77 Front AxleHi Folks,
I picked up a 1967 CL77 last Easter. Long story, but it had an 80's era front end on it which didn't fit correctly, and I've tossed. I've been in the process of collecting manuals, books, parts and knowledge to put this old girl back together as correctly as I can. I know it will never be a perfect example of a 305 Scrambler, but it can still be pretty nice. In the 70's, I rode dirt bikes almost daily. A friend of mine had a 305 Scrambler, and although it wasn't the best dirt bike around, it was the coolest and best sounding bike I remember riding on or with. I hope to start a thread on my restoration soon. Like I mentioned, I've been trying to collect parts, and last weekend I installed front forks and the triple tree on the bike. Luckily, the stem bearings seemed to be all there. 36 total, 18 top and 18 bottom, right? I somehow find it very satisfying to work on this old classic. I've also collected a front wheel assembly, hopefully the right one. Supposedly off a 67. It looks to be a big brake unit, and it's complete with brake and linkage. Once I get that on, I could roll it instead of half carrying it and rolling it on the back wheel. It's my intention to collect and install the parts to complete the bike, then tear down and restore. Not the quickest way to go, or best bike to start with, but I'm just trying to learn my way around these classics and do a decent job. OK, enough rambling? Regarding the axle assembly, it appears I need the axle with the nut that is also mounted in the fork tube. I have also read, perhaps on this forum (?) that a 450 Scrambler front axle will also work. Any information and/or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks Assuming you have alloy front forks - this is what you are looking for...

Here's the bike after installing the alloy front end. I have a seat, headlight with broken broken glass and broken speedo glass, tank with filled in emblems, side covers, skid plate, footpegs, sidestand, center stand, front wheel with big brake, and a front fender with rolled edges. The slides in the carbs are free, and the engine kicks over nicely with surprisingly good compression. I've got a tire, rim liner, tube, and front axle on the way. Hope to at least be able to roll it around soon. Excuse my ignorance, but in 67 should this tank have a seam?
