Info for 1968 CL77

Post by renoman » Wed Dec 25, 2013 6:32 pm

Hello,
I've inherited a 1968 CL77 from my uncle who has been a restorer of old bikes for 40 years. I don't know much about this bike. A local old Honda shop got it running by a carb cleaning. The owner informed me that the CL350 came out in 1968 and thus Honda just assembled the 1968 305's with parts remaining on the shelves. He says there are many of them with a combo of parts and some had promotional bikes and parts for shows. This CL has chrome fenders and headlight. The shop owner says they were a rare bike and he actually had one on his show room floor. Can anyone confirm this? The bike looks like new........Thanks

Since our local experts have not chimed in here, I'll try to help you with what I think I know.
First, the last year of production was 1967 so your 68 was a 67 sold and titled as a 68.
The chrome fenders were introduced in 67 I think on black frames only and with two colors on the tank and side covers. They were Candy blue or candy topaz orange as opposed to the standard silver. The chromed headlight may have been a special order or promotional thing for dealers. Rumor has it that honda offered to certain dealers some all chrome bikes but a former dealer friend told me that he never actually saw one. Hope this has been helpfull,,,,,Rusty

Thanks Rusty, the dealer who has been in business since 1966 said he has seen a chromed out CL77, it was at a show and it was a promotional thing. He also said you would see a silver tank on the 68's as well but they were few and the candy colors were more popular.
