CL72 and Alloy FendersCL72 and Alloy FendersHello Group,
I've got a CL72 -1104588. Would it have come with alloy fenders? The rear fender that came with it is alloy and looks to be original. The front fender (also alloy) and bobbed stay were not on the bike when I got it but handed to me with other stuff as part of the deal.
Re: CL72 and Alloy FendersRay,
Yes, alloy fenders would be correct. 110XXXX series was the early 1964's & they are basically 63's then the 40XXXXX are later and were more like the 1965 models and they also had alloy fenders. Tim
Thanks Tim
That's good to know, especially because I like the look of polished aluminum. The rear fendor is in good condition. The front, however, not so much. I am considering trying one of the universal alloy fenders available at places that specialize in restoration of European bikes like Speed and Sport. Thanks rrietman,
I think mine might have originated from the polished era because, on the still-good rear fender, you can see traces of an ancient clear coat. Based on the information you provided, I think the front fender was painted aluminum and not original to the bike because it has traces of silver paint and it is pretty rough compared to the rear.
As rrietman stated thhat bike was issued with painted aluminum fenders front and rear.
Easy enough to change fenders and they were changed on many bikes. .........lm
Hi Ray,
I have done metal restoration on many alloy fenders / tanks. It's easy to work with & easy to polish IF you can get it straight ?? You can always let the next owner put some paint on it to make it restored correct or not. Just have fun with it and don't let the Honda police bother you. PM me if you need help or fenders. Regards, Tim
