CL77 Wiring Harness Foleys

Post by Spitfire151 » Mon Jul 29, 2013 10:28 pm

So I've got a slightly modded wiring harness off of my CL77. I'm also colorblind, so it's made things quite interesting lol. Here's a link to a video I made highlighting my issues. I used a multimeter to check for a circuit to test the wires.

Let me know your thoughts and have a few laughs!

spitfire151,

If you mount the rectifier underneith the battery box, that will give you a starting point for where the wires go and how they connect. The wiring harness will have some memory as to the layout on the frame etc. Once you attach the rectifier, the wires will line up pretty much where they go and you can continue to hook them up one at a time. It does appear from your video, that you do have some color deficiency. Might get some help from a friend to match the colors. I have found out that, with the exception of the two added wires to your harness, that all the wires will hook up to the matching colors of the individual components such as tail light, coils, ignition switch etc. It's pretty straight forward as to how they hook up. I believe there are some wiring charts on the forum (search area) that can help you. The two added wires may not be added, just missing the connectors. If you think they have been added and are not the right colors, undo the grey tape and see if they are an add-on, if they are, look at the original color wire and change them out.

Hope this has helped you, if not, PM me and I will give you my phone number and we can talk. I do believe that depending on the year, the harnesses were changed just a bit. If you call me, I will give you a color rundown on each component and we can work it out for you, as best as I can anyway.

Spitfire151, if you edit your profile and add where you are located, maybe someone that may be near you will assist.

Rickytic thanks for the guidance on placing it. I took it off the bike yesterday in hopes of testing and sorting it. I found two diagrams on here and used them in conjunction with my Clymer's but the two wires I labeled with question marks do not seem to match up, same goes for the set of red and black that have female connectors. I'm taking it down tonight to reattach, my hope is that it was the fuse that had me fouled up and I'll report back when I'm done.

Profile is updated =)!

Update: Seem to have it wired up, here is a video. Please excuse my rambling, I'm excited at my (perceived) success.

As always, those with more knowledge please comment.

For the hi/lo dimmer/horn switch, I'm assuming the red light on my speedo is to say highs are on, but as you can see something seems swapped maybe? I could see the bulb switching positions when I toggled it but one didn't really appear brighter than the other.

the wattage of the high and low beams are the same. The difference is the location of the element changing the direction the beam shines.

Oh that makes sense now! I wondered why the beams lower element would cast up (like a high beam) when activated. Though the mistake was on my end, another small victory :). Thank you OldStan.
