New member with a CL77 (1965)

Hi all,
I found your site while sourcing more info about my recently (yesterday) acquired 1965 CL77, pictures are attached.

Currently the throttle cable needs replaced, carbs will be rebuilt/cleaned, tank needs de-rusted, petcock gone through, oil change, etc.

Need air filter and boots, tires, brake springs, etc. I've found a few good sites for these and eBay of course.

It sat for 6 years in a shop after the PO had them replaced the kickstarter shaft, and then became the shop's.

From what I can tell, the handlebars seem lower than stock, the seat is a one-up/def. not stock, the mufflers look toyed with but I like the style, paint is not stock lol but honestly has grown on me. The stock perches seem to have been replaced with ones that don't have a mirror thread, I'm assuming this isn't stock anyway. Also, centerstand is missing as are passenger pegs.

A little about me, I got into bikes early last year, went through a state course, got my license, got a 1981 Kawasaki KZ440 modded to be a cafe and have been riding since. In May I picked up a 78 Yamaha XS750, rebuilt the carbs, reupholstered the seat, fixed dents and other odds and ends and sold it just a few days before buying this CL77. I have an extreme fondness for the features and styles of Japanese and British motorcycles from the 60s-70s, they just have soul.

Anyways, if you've made it this far through the book please share with me anything your experienced eyes pick out about my bike.

Oh and I've since removed the flame stickers =).

Hi

Interesting looking bike and parts-wise you have all of the difficult bits and un-molested fenders which is a bonus.

Pipes have been modded and are missing original heat shields. Yes - your lever perches are after market. Easy enough to locate on eBay.

Rocking pedal shift lever is from a Dream. Scrambles have a flat pedal with no rubber.

With that color scheme it's crying out for a black engine......

Thanks G-man, I hope it turns out to be a solid runner for me.

Can anyone confirm if those handlebars are stock or not? They appear to sit slightly lower whenever I consult pics of stock bikes on here/the net.

Also, once it's running, I'll be tossing on blinkers (winkers).

Any one know if that was ever a stock colour?
I have seen another CL77 in what looks like the exact same yellow.

Just a quick glance, the wheels, forks and chain guard are later issue than '65. They never came in yellow. Handle bars are not stock. I too had a yellow one at one time. I also built one similar to this using a '65 frame and all late parts. Sold it to a friend and bought it back when he passed on, sold it again and it was then freshened up then sold to a dentist in the Chicago area where it resides in his office.

Another update on this bike, took the carbs apart and dipped them.

Found the jets to be mismatched:

Left carb 38 and 130; right carb 42 and 135.
The kit had 39 and 130. Both carbs are 26s.
