cl72/77 fenders

Post by Scram64 » Thu Nov 11, 2010 11:43 pm

Thumper, from my search, the CL72 aluminum fronts that were not cut or crashed are getting used up. I don't like the word rare, it inflates the value of the part. Also, the rear aluminum fenders were mounted poorly from the factory and they cracked from vibration. Then a few guys rode the cl's in the dirt and cracked the fender around the taillight. The trick is to find a good metal guy who can repair them. Darn right I keep a spare. Sorry for the long answer. Scram64

James

I have been collecting parts for my 1963 CL72 for around 18 months. I agree that you should just put it to one side and parts will turn up eventually. I have been very lucky and have two really nice aluminum fenders plus pretty much all of the period parts. Some of those were sweaty-palm expensive eBay parts and some just turned up.

Because I didn't expect the aluminum front fender to ever turn up, I do have an 8-hole steel fender and brace spare at the moment. I had to prevent myself bidding on another CL72 last night just to have a bike to attach to the fender. It really is an addiction now.

Good luck with your search

While on the subject, are the CL72 steel fenders different than the CL77? I'm thinking perhaps a bit wider on the CL77.

I know where this is a nice pair of fenders I'd like to get and put them on my '67 in place of the chrome fenders. Could not tell by looking if they were CL72 or 77 fenders. If I remember right the front brace had 4 holes where it bolts to the sliders.

Thanks,
Rob

The steel slider bikes use the 8 hole front fender, while the aluminum fork bikes use the 6 hole. Tim at Classic Honda has repros of the 6 hole fender and bracket. The 8 hole fender and bracket, whether aluminum or steel are spendy when you find one. I have bought complete part bikes just for the uncut front fender and bracket.

Will the Honda 350 Fenders fit?

Post by bulterier » Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:00 pm

With Honda 305 Scrambler fenders getting to be so scarce and expensive.
I was wondering if Honda CL350 Chrome fenders front and rear could be made to
fit the 305 Scrambler.
Any help would be appreciated.
