CL77

Post by Terry Brown » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:13 pm

Hello All,
Just joined your brilliant forum as a new owner of a CL77. Dragged it out of a pile in a breakers yard and 80 percent complete but all I have is the frame #CL77 1053529., and I'm in the UK so any info would be of great help to me for registering it when I've rebuilt it. Many thanks for any efforts by anyone, regards, Terry.

Welcome to the forum. I live in Derby and am restoring three (mad I know) of these scramblers. Which parts are you missing?

There are a few CLs in UK now so you are not completely alone. If you can, get hold of a parts book and the Bill Silver books available from this site.

Hi G,
Thanks for replying to my queary, you sound nearly as daft as me. At 63years and retired I thought I'd find something to keep me ticking over,so as a biker from the 60's, something a little rare seemed to be the way to go. Recent history as follows:-
The yard owner told me its an import (obviously) and I was hoping for some info from the U.S. as to when it was registered and where in the U.S. It looks like a 66/67 with alloy fork bottoms and steel mudguards. Its a later engine as its # is approx' 3000 out and its,(or was), siezed, but I found an earlier "turning" engine at Newark Auto jumble (which I have yet to strip and check). SO, its just a few bits of trim etc but a seat seems as rare as the preverbial.......I intend to ring Oxford Classic Honda next week, however, parts required are:-....speedo cable/carb bowl gasket/tank badges/tank pads/plug caps/pillion footrests/points/r-h air filter/exhaust baffles/stone guard/fork gaiters/piston rings(after stripdown) and seat and chainguard, which are almost impossible.......
I regularly check e-bay, bill silvers, cms and online m/c spares.
Theres no paperwork at all, so I'll have to start from scratch with its history, which brings me full circle.
P.S. siezure was due to internal cam chain sprocket coming adrift and clogging up the lot

Well G. you did ask..........hohoho
best regards,
T.

Most eBayers would describe that as 99% complete :-)

I may be able to help with pillion footrests and possibly a rough seat.

Tank badges are easy to get from Ray Byrne RRHByrne@aol.com and the rubbers can be had from Tim McDowell's Classic Honda Restorations. He also has repro chainguards. I have piston rings in most sizes.

D & K near Stafford were breaking a CL77 recently so they may have some bits left.

Where are you in England?

Your a gold mine.
Ment to add...clock shows 38k, condition looks right for clock, d.i.d. rims, tls front and back.
Today, have cut and shut left exhaust bend ( as It must have laid in a puddle for a while) with a bit of new pipe from Newark.
Am 4 miles east of Jctn 30, Whitwell.
Would be glad of footrests and seat, what are you asking?

regards,

T

Terry

I am away on Holiday for a couple of weeks. I'll have a look through my parts when I get back and send you a PM.

There are a couple of CL owners in Chesterfield, near you. I am on the North side of Derby so not far away.
