CL77 side stand spring

Post by gopher » Mon Mar 29, 2010 10:10 pm

I need a side stand spring for my CL77. My parts book lists the part number as 50542-273-010, superseded by 95014-72401. The original part is no longer available. The superseded part is also used on the CL350's and the CL450's. I ordered a spring (95014-72401) and it doesn't fit my CL77. It's the perfect fit for my CL350 and CL450.
The distance between anchor points on the CL77 is about 5.75". The distance between anchors on the 350 is about 4.5". The spring is about 4" long (un-stretched). There is no way I could stretch this spring 1.25" to fit on the CL77. Even if I could, it seems like the ends of the spring are oriented incorrectly. Anyone ever crossed this bridge before???

Hi,

Not this bridge, but you can do a lot of things with a cutting device, plyers and patience.
Honda replaces old parts with new parts, and accordingly newer part numbers. I ran into this problem several times. Sometimes you can remake it, but sometimes not.

CL77 side stand spring

I was able to find the correct part, 50542-273-010 at Ohio Cycle. The superseded part that Honda lists, 95014-72401, does not fit this bike.

I've noticed from the three CL side stands I have that the spring hook is in different positions. Maybe they used a different stand on later models.
