CL72 Hubs: Should they be polished? Or?

Post by gltrench » Mon Jan 12, 2009 2:07 pm

I'm finishing up a 1963 CL72 (small hub model) and I'm trying to figure out what kind of finish to put on the wheel hubs. I'm pretty sure they came from the factory with some sort of anodized finish. What's the best way to finish these for an accurate restoration? I've seen some polished to a mirror finish and others with a satin look. Any ideas?

Not sure, but I think they were "polished" and clearcoated. They definitely were not mirror finished.

All of the newer style hubs sets that I have are clearcoated and the finish under the clearcoat is maybe 1200 or so finish from just guessing, maybe a little better.

I'm sure LM will know.

Better check with lm to be sure. There were many variations, bare sandcast, grey-painted and polished-clearcoated. He will want to know your serial number. --Randall
