CL77
CL77It seems that I managed to buy a 1966 CL77 on Ebay yesterday. Price seemed right due to the condition in pictures. Only thing is, it has the earlier (small) tail light and is a weird color of light green. Can't remember if Honda ever painted them that color. Thinking a re-paint at some point in time. Also has two bolts sticking thru the rear fender apparently for the plate/vibration as they were "shakers" to some extent. Holes can be welded shut. Missing the tank badges (I have an extra pair of metal ones) and the kick start rubber which I also have. Ad said no spark, but has fuel flow. Thinking maybe the points (have), condensor (have) or coils (have) or even just a dead battery (have a new one). Just have to drive to Ohio in my truck on Monday to retrieve it. Being retired has it's advantages and fortunately, my diesel Dodge gets decent milage. Another minor project. Wheels even looked good with only minor pitting and complete exhaust with the muffler and best of all, an UNCUT front fender and stay! Seat looks original and in good condition with no tears visable. Even a "blind hog finds an acorn now and then". That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
CL77Well, I just got back home with it this afternoon after driving up to Ohio to pick it up. Terrible weather off/on with driving rain storms up and the first half back. Bike is actually somewhat better than it looked on Ebay. Suspect totally dead batter is the cause for no spark. Bought it from a used car parts dealer who admitted no experience with bikes. Will check into it more tomorrow. Charging a new battery as I type this. Will check around for a rear luggage rack for short store runs (saving gas). 22 mile round trip and on a fixed income (retired). The light green paint is a repaint as I've seen the original silver under it. Will be putting up a NOS 1981 CBX in a few days on Ebay. 1.1 miles ACTUAL and has the MSO. Yes, you read correctly NOS, 1.1 mile. Belongs top a buddy of mine who is thinning out his herd. Just sold one to a man in Paris, France. It was a 990 mile 1980 CBX..
CL77Well, I checked out the CL77 closer today and other than a battery which read 5.45 volts meaning it was DEAD and a couple of various screws here and there which I have, I found that the stator had a couple of broken wires but I also have three or four of them. Tank had been creamed but not too well and I also have another (two actually) an early model and a 1967 tank that has the seam. Put in new battery, horn blows not too loud, typical CL77 but I can adjust that and the hi/low beams work. Stator and tank change out tomorrow. Anyone know of a rear luggage rack? Thanks, Charlie AKNA CBXmountainman.
CL77If someone can tell me how to do the pic thing I'll post some.
Tore into the AC generator this AM and found that someone had failed to put the stator bolts back in there by letting it just rotate back and forth which probably is the reason it shorted out. When I remove it, the wire to the neutral switch broke off (I have a switch), but getting the old screws out is somewhat of a problem. I'll just perservere and get them out. Will have to take the front sprocket off tho to get a decent "bite" on it with my impact driver. Not looking to cleaning out the old tank sealer and doing it again either. Anyone ever use Pore 15 ? I have a system for creaming the tank but was curious about persuing other avenues. Thanks in advance on the questions I've posed.
