Value of original color

Hey guys
I just aquired a 1966 305 scrambler. It was forgotten about in my brother in laws garage. When I was a teenager I purchased a brand new cl77 in 1967. My bike back in the day was red frame silver tank. This one was black frame silver tank (but has been painted ugly blue). My question is am I hurting the value if I restore this bike and paint the frame red and silver tank/fenders? Also if I change the brakes over to the larger 8" will that affect the value being as it did not come from the factory that way.

Would you mind posting the frame/engine number? Not that it has anything to do with value but what you describe sounds earlier than a '66 model.

Is the frame blue with Silver tank?

Original color combo's should not effect value whatsoever, It's when you stray from that you start changing the value. I think you could get a red frame/silver tank in '66. Others on the board can provide you with more info on that.

Pictures of the bike would be nice as it would help in identifying what you have.
